New location and other changes

As a business of nearly three decades, we’ve seen a few changes over the years. But in recent months, there have been some major developments within DRF Electrical.

The company’s founder Dave Foster took retirement last year, and the business is now run by Dave’s long-standing business partner Neil Leak. We’ve also relocated to the North East, and are busier than ever with new clients as well as established ones.

DRF history and Dave’s retirement

Dave founded DRF Electrical in the late 1990s, initially working on his own. A few years later Neil, who had worked as Dave’s apprentice at a previous company, joined him as a partner in the business. By this time, DRF Electrical was growing and working on projects nationwide. It became a limited company in 2004.

Since its inception, DRF has been based in Leeds. The business has now relocated to purpose-built warehouse and office premises in Middlesbrough. It is closer to Neil’s home in Teesside and is near to motorways for easy access to Yorkshire and the North East. This will allow us to grow our business opportunities in the North, alongside the work that DRF carries out across the rest of the UK. Neil’s wife Adele is now a director and runs the accounting side of the business.

We wish Dave all the very best for his retirement after he has spent decades working very hard and running DRF successfully. We hope he’s sitting back, relaxing and taking a well-earned break.

Our work

DRF works across the country on electrical projects in a variety of sectors including retail, commercial, industrial and leisure. From shop fitting to cabling and lighting upgrades, to security and fire alarm systems, as well as emergency lighting, and data and life systems, we offer a range of electrical services.

During our decades in the industry we have developed a great reputation for the quality and reliability of our work. We manage the sites well and have a great reputation for delivering projects on time and on budget. We are among the trusted electrical contractors for major brands such as Specsavers, O2 and Travis Perkins. We are directly appointed electrical contractors for Eurochange and Trailfinders.

All our work is won through competitive tendering and we are proud to be so busy after the challenges we faced through the pandemic. Like many others, we found that period very difficult. Our turnover was under a third of what it has been pre-covid, so we are now delighted to say we’ve come back stronger than ever. We’re currently on site at nearly 20 jobs, mainly in the retail sector, and are very busy.

Our existing relationships with clients have gone from strength to strength and we are now in the position where we are looking for someone to join our team as a project manager. We are hoping to take on an apprentice at some point, too.

A key element of our success is the strong and trusted relationships we build with our clients, many of whom we work with time and again. We also constantly strive to improve our knowledge and skills, and keep up-to-date with industry innovations and training.
