Case Study: Colette, Westfield Stratford City

Background

Australian accessory brand Colette was launched by Colette Hayman to help women stay on trend with ease, confidence and no limitations. Its affordably-priced range of handbags, purses and other fashion accessories are styled on the latest catwalk looks, with new ranges introduced every week.

Founded in Sydney in 2010, the company now has more than 160 stores throughout Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the Middle East, and is expanding in the US.

The retailer has also set its sights on the British market, and has plans to open 10 stores by February next year. Its debut UK store opened in October at Westfield Stratford City shopping centre in East London, and a further outlet was unveiled the following month at Manchester’s Arndale Centre.

Project

DRF has recently completed the electrical fit-out of Colette’s 2,325ft sq flagship store at Westfield Stratford City in East London.

The outlet aims to showcase Colette’s range of products in their best light to its new UK customers, and the premises is bright, airy and inviting. Handbags and other accessories are neatly lined up on shelving and free-standing units, with bright colours sitting alongside more muted tones.

The electrical fit-out included lighting, security, data cabling and wiring. As we aim to do on all our projects, we completed the work on time and within budget.

Expertise

DRF has worked on a range of commercial projects over many years, designing and installing all aspects of an electrical system for businesses in various industries. Our extensive experience in the retail sector has included everything from single store fit-outs to nationwide electrical system upgrades.

One of the main focuses when fitting out a retail store is the lighting. For Colette’s premises at Westfield Shopping Centre, the lighting needed to showcase and complement the stunning range of products while creating a modern yet inviting atmosphere. To achieve this, we used a mixture of ambient lighting and accent lights to maintain a warm feel while guiding customers through the store to key areas and products.

Case study: Calvin Klein, Grand Arcade, Cambridge

Background

The Calvin Klein brand is known the world over for its ‘iconic fashion reimagined’ designs. Always on trend with a crisp, modern twist, the American fashion house was established by designer Calvin Klein and childhood friend Barry K Schwartz in 1968. Calvin Klein created the designer jeans craze of the 1970s and transformed the market for men’s underwear back in the ’80s. The stylish designs are just as popular today and the company, headquartered in New York, is now owned by PVH.

Project

DRF has recently completed work on a new Calvin Klein underwear store in the Grand Arcade, St Andrew’s Street, Cambridge.  The bright, cutting-edge concept store opened at the beginning of November in time for Christmas shopping. The contemporary, modern layout and lighting of the shop floor was carefully designed to complement this international brand to perfection.

Our Expertise

Our main focus on this project was to install a lighting scheme to showcase the premium products on display to their full potential. Just like the Calvin Klein brand, it needed to be a crisp, modern and bright interior. We drew on our extensive retail sector experience to come up with a concept that would give a fabulous first impression and add interest to the interior layout.

We used a mixture of ambient lighting and accent lighting to illuminate specific areas. Most of all, we developed a modern, clean scheme to allow customers to shop at their leisure in a welcoming space. Using LED lighting allowed us to provide contrast and light throughout, as well as offering better environmental benefits due to less wastage.

In our work with premium retailers, we always start from first principles in the sense that getting the lighting right is key to the whole customer experience. We then draw on our technical know-how to create the look and ambience that suits the brand.

DRF has worked with many leading high street companies on single store projects right through to nationwide store fit-outs and upgrades. We understand the importance of good communication, particularly when lots of contractors are involved, and making sure everything stays on track. Our bespoke electrical solutions are planned and fine-tuned to achieve just the right result.
